L'aziendaThe winery

L'azienda vitivinicola Erede di Chiappone Armando deve il suo nome al capostipite Armando, classe 1908, uomo di grande capacità e lungimiranza. Insieme al fratello Cesare aveva capito già allora l'importanza della “proprietà del vigneto” per poter produrre i vini migliori. Per questo, in sua memoria, si è deciso di mantenerne il nome.

Filare dopo filare, l'azienda è cresciuta fino ai giorni nostri sotto la guida del figlio Franco. Dai primi del '900 qui si producono vini di spessore e di spiccata personalità.

Oggi, alla terza generazione, il testimone è passato al nipote di Armando, Daniele, enologo, che insieme al padre Franco, alla madre Diliana e alla sorella Michela gestisce direttamente 10 ettari di vigneto.

The Erede di Chiappone Armando winery takes its name from its founder Armando, born in 1908, a capable and far-sighted man. Together with his brother Cesare he understood early on that owning your own vineyards is the key to making the best wines. The winery keeps his name in his memory.

Row after row, the estate grew to what it is today under the guidance of his son Franco. Wines of depth and real personality have been made here since the early 1900s.

Today, in the third generation, Armando's grandson Daniele, an oenologist, runs the estate's 10 hectares of vineyards together with his father Franco, his mother Diliana and his sister Michela.

I vigneti si trovano intorno alla Cascina San Michele, un antico borgo sulla sommità della collina di San Michele, da cui svetta il campanile dell'antica Pieve omonima. Si coltivano soprattutto Barbera, Dolcetto, Freisa, Grignolino e Favorita.

La filosofia aziendale è produrre vini di elevata qualità e personalità, che rispecchino appieno la tipicità del territorio. In pratica questo significa un lavoro meticoloso e tempestivo in vigna e in cantina: la qualità si costruisce nel vigneto, per poterla ritrovare nel vino in bottiglia.

In vigna si segue una “viticoltura ragionata”, che punta da una parte alla massima salvaguardia dell'ambiente e dall'altra alla massima espressione del vitigno. Da sempre si cerca di coniugare la sostenibilità ambientale con la coltivazione della vite.

The vineyards surround Cascina San Michele, an old hamlet on top of the San Michele hill, crowned by the bell tower of its ancient parish church. The main varieties are Barbera, Dolcetto, Freisa, Grignolino and Favorita.

Our philosophy is to make wines of high quality and personality that fully express the character of their land. In practice that means careful, timely work in the vineyard and in the cellar: quality is built in the vineyard so that it can be found again in the bottle.

In the vineyards we practise “reasoned viticulture”, balancing the greatest respect for the environment with the fullest expression of each grape variety. Sustainability and vine growing have always gone hand in hand here.

Ru

Barbera d'Asti Superiore Nizza D.O.C.G.

La sottozona Nizza è nata nel 2000 e raggruppa 18 comuni con caratteristiche viticole omogenee per la produzione di una grande Barbera. Colore rosso porpora; al naso frutta e dolci note di cacao, in bocca un'esplosione di frutta rossa. Vellutato e rotondo: è come mangiare un acino di Barbera.

The Nizza sub-zone was created in 2000 and groups 18 municipalities with homogeneous vineyards for producing great Barbera. Purple red; fruit and sweet hints of cocoa on the nose, an explosion of red fruit on the palate. Velvety and round – like biting into a Barbera grape.

Brentura

Barbera d'Asti D.O.C.G.

Un bel rosso rubino con riflessi viola che dà già l'idea di un vino piacevole. In bocca ritroviamo le note dolci di frutta fresca, ciliegia e pesca, seguite da un'acidità ben equilibrata che rende la beva facile e gradevole. Spicca la fruttuosità tipica delle migliori Barbera.

A bright ruby red with violet hints that already promises an enjoyable wine. On the palate, the sweet notes of fresh fruit, cherry and peach found on the nose, followed by a well-balanced acidity that makes it easy and pleasant to drink – the fruitiness of the best Barbera.

Mandola

Dolcetto d'Asti D.O.C.

Vitigno tipico del Piemonte dal bel colore rosso rubino. Al naso profumi di frutta e bacche, presenti anche in bocca insieme alla tipica sensazione di mandorla nel retrogusto. Vino di buona concentrazione, morbido ed equilibrato.

A classic Piedmont variety with a fine ruby colour. Fruit and berries on the nose and on the palate, with the typical almond note on the finish. Concentrated, soft and balanced.

Sanpedra

Freisa d'Asti D.O.C.

Vitigno poco conosciuto ma molto diffuso in Piemonte. Rosso granato con riflessi viola; al naso sentori vegetali di fiori ed erbe, un tocco di spezia e una nota balsamica. In bocca la nota tannica tipica del Freisa, seguita da buona concentrazione ed equilibrio.

A little-known but widely planted Piedmont grape. Garnet red with violet hints; flowers, herbs, a touch of spice and a balsamic note on the nose. On the palate the typical Freisa tannins, followed by good concentration and balance.

Gri

Grignolino

Il Grignolino è da sempre coltivato in azienda e, insieme a Barbera, Dolcetto e Freisa, forma la base viticola storica di questa parte di Piemonte. Rosso rubino vivo, a volte con lievi riflessi aranciati. Profumi di ciliegia e lampone che ritornano al gusto, seguiti da un lieve retrogusto tannico, tipico della varietà.

Grignolino has always been grown on the estate and, with Barbera, Dolcetto and Freisa, forms the historic backbone of this part of Piedmont. Bright ruby red, sometimes with light orange hints. Cherry and raspberry on the nose and palate, with the gentle tannic finish typical of the variety.

Rosita “Buenos Aires 1911”

Rosita era il nome della nonna, classe 1911, nata a Buenos Aires: questo vino è dedicato a lei perché un po' le assomiglia, semplice, elegante e deciso. Nasce dal matrimonio della Barbera con il Dolcetto. Al naso bonbon anglais, pesca e fragola; in bocca un'esplosione di pesca seguita da una fine vena acida che fa… schioccare la lingua.

Rosita was the name of our grandmother, born in Buenos Aires in 1911. This wine is dedicated to her because it resembles her a little: simple, elegant and determined. A marriage of Barbera and Dolcetto. Boiled sweets, peach and strawberry on the nose; a burst of peach on the palate with a fine, lively acidity that makes you… click your tongue.

Angel

Il nome nasce da un angelo posto in un piccolo camposanto di campagna, che con le ali spiegate pareva proteggere le vigne sottostanti. Giallo paglierino con riflessi verdognoli, da uve Favorita, Cortese e Chardonnay. Al naso pesca bianca, timo, menta e fiori; al gusto banana, mela e note minerali che danno sapidità e piacevolezza.

Named after an angel in a small country cemetery whose outspread wings seemed to protect the vineyards below. Straw yellow with green hints, made from Favorita, Cortese and Chardonnay. White peach, thyme, mint and flowers on the nose; banana, apple and a mineral, savoury freshness on the palate.

Passito di Barbera

Un prodotto inconsueto: le uve di Barbera, dopo un primo appassimento in vigna, vengono raccolte e lasciate appassire sui graticci in cascina fino a dicembre. Frutta matura e ciliegia; molto strutturato, con una lieve nota acida ben amalgamata alla dolcezza. Ottimo con i formaggi e la pasticceria secca.

An unusual wine: after a first drying on the vine, the Barbera grapes are picked and left to dry further on racks in the farmhouse until December. Ripe fruit and cherry; full-bodied, with a gentle acidity well blended into the sweetness. Excellent with cheese and dry pastries.

Barbera Chinato

Un vino aromatizzato che colpisce per la ricchezza dei profumi: la frutta della Barbera si fonde con vaniglia, agrumi, cannella e chiodi di garofano. Al gusto un buon equilibrio tra la dolcezza e la nota amaricante della china.

An aromatised wine with a remarkable richness of aromas: Barbera fruit blends with vanilla, citrus, cinnamon and cloves. On the palate, a fine balance between sweetness and the bitter note of cinchona.

Grappa di vinacce di Barbera Nizza affinata in rovere francese. Colpisce soprattutto la morbidezza; al naso sentori di frutta ben fusi con le note dolci di cacao e vaniglia. La distillazione ha saputo estrarre il meglio dalle vinacce della Barbera.

Grappa from Barbera Nizza pomace, aged in French oak. Above all it is smooth, with fruit on the nose blending into sweet notes of cocoa and vanilla. The distillation draws out the very best of the Barbera pomace.
